New Investigations Support Campaigns for Animals in the Global South

‍Over the past month, Sinergia Animal and World Animal Protection have released footage gathered by TRACKS Investigations, exposing hidden practices and using the evidence to press major companies for change. Further releases from Sinergia will expose conditions for caged laying hens in Latin America and Asia before Christmas.

Supporting Sinergia’s Cage-Free Campaigns

Our investigation into egg farms supplying Líder, Walmart’s supermarket chain in Chile, is the first of three investigations undertaken for Sinergia Animal into caged egg production in Latin America and Asia. All three are due to be released before Christmas.

The Chile footage exposed crowded cages, hens with severe feather loss, dead birds collected in waste bins and carbon dioxide killing systems. Sinergia is using this evidence in its “Líder, Listen!” campaign, combining media coverage, a campaign website and public actions to press Walmart Chile for a dated, verifiable cage-free egg commitment.

Blood Feathers: Exposing Another Hidden Industry

Our work in the Global South also supported Blood Feathers, released by World Animal Protection and Collective Fashion Justice in September. The investigation exposed the treatment of ostriches in South Africa’s feather industry and generated international media coverage, supporting calls for the fashion industry to stop using ostrich feathers.

These releases show TRACKS’ Theory of Change in practice: we uncover hidden exploitation and provide credible evidence that animal protection organisations use in campaigns seeking corporate, policy and public change.

We have also just completed our Theory of Change with The Mission Motor. We’re now improving how we organise our work so we can take on more investigations and keep track of what happens after our evidence is released.
